Couldn't We Ride Installation

Things are coming along nicely for our bike show: Couldn't we Ride. (sneak peeks below)
The show officially opens Friday, July 2 - but be sure and come by tomorrow at 5 for a private reception. We will also be hosting a bike polo match in the parking lot at 7:30.
Don't miss it!

And we wouldn't be where we are today without our hero James - check out that concentration. He's the bees knees.

right around the corner

The bicycles are coming! The bicycles are coming!
Couldn't We Ride an exhibit spotlighting the art and craft of the bicycle, opens July 1st, 2010, at Quirk. From a child's eyes, a bicycle is the ultimate gateway to freedom. They can go wherever they want, however fast they choose. Perhaps it is the feeling of freedom one gets when riding a bicycle that makes them such a nostalgic symbol. Perhaps it is because of the endless possibilities bicycles allow us. We have gathered a group of artists that Quirk believes have combined creativity and problem solving with beauty and functionality to produce bicycles and accessories that reach the highest level of craft and design. The exhibition will showcase work that demonstrates the elegance and importance of handmade items in everyday life.

Movie Night

Have no fear, we were able to pack up the projector and finish "Fast Times" in the gallery last night. The first movie night was a success despite Mother Nature's attempt to keep us down!

Lizzie Sunglasses are here!

LIZZIE SUNGLASSES

We stumbled upon some tinted vintage safety glasses in Bushwick in 2008 and thought that they not only looked rad but were designed incredibly well. After wearing them around for a few weeks, and fielding countless questions about where we found them, we've updated and modified the design in hopes of sharing these classic shapes with everyone. We like to think of them as a modern spin on NoIR Laser Shields. Each pair is impact resistant (naturally) and comes with its own custom case.

- Crews' Duramass scratch-resistant coating
- ANSI Z87.1 Safety Standard compliant
- 99.9% UV Protected
- custom urethane dip for colored earpieces*
- custom Waterproof Witz Lens Locker case with carabiner

Lens Size: 48mm
Frame Width: 5 1/2"
Frame Height: 1 7/8"

And The Winner Is.....

Our first annual headshot contest has come to an end. The winner of the apple iPad is... (just kidding)
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, here. Drumroll please...

Second runner up: Anthony Tammaro

First runner up: Karen Seifert

And the winner is.......... Leo Caldes!
Congratulations, Leo... we can't give you an ipad, but come in and claim your prize... if you dare!

Thanks to everyone who submitted shots. They are all fabulous and we love you!

OMG I'm in love...

These bangles just arrived from one of our favorites, Claire McDermott.
Claire uses the most unexpected found objects and mounts them in sterling silver to create amazing charms for her bangles. From bottle caps, to spray paint nozzles, to guitar pics, each charm is strangely nostalgic. Maggie and I immediately knew we had to have them for ourselves - don't worry, there are plenty to go around!
$90 each, so you can pile them on.

Biba Schutz

Quirk welcomes Biba Schutz as our newest Represented jeweler. Biba Schutz currently lives and works in New York City. These are just a couple of examples of Biba's new work here in the gallery.
