Lori Talcott

"Sorrowing Chain" Brooch
(photography credit: Richard Nicol)

Lori Talcott is a Seattle based metalsmith whose work has been featured in our Sparkle Plenty 5 exhibit here in our main gallery. Her work is said to be inspired by family history, her travel experiences, and research of traditional and historical adornment. Talcott's work is a part of many private and permanent collections, such as the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and Renwick Gallery and we are glad to have the opportunity to show her pieces. Come see her beautifully made work and those of the rest of the Sparkle Plenty crew before the show comes down next week (Dec. 23rd).

We <3 Young House Love

We love Young House Love, and apparently they love us too. Check this out!

Struggles Think Not

The Struggles Think Not by Rob Tarbell is still going strong. I am certain these guys are simply holding their breath until we lock the door each night. Then they spring up and have a wild rumpus until we return in the morning. They are really getting sick of me talking to them so please come say "hi".
They have also gotten some press on eXaminer.com

Sparkle Plenty 5 Presents: Marlene True

Marlene True works with recycled and discarded objects to convey the ephemeral quality of life.
The work tells its own story. The rust, scratches, dents and dings--the surfaces are varied and rich. Her jewelry contains narratives of both past and present experiences. These are conveyed to the viewer and wearer through the way in which Marlene manipulates her materials and the resulting aesthetic.

Book Signing at Quirk: Memoirs of a Snow Queen

Come join us on December 3rd from 4-7pm for the book signing of "Memoirs of a Snow Queen." Donna Strother Deeken's novel shares her touching and humorous holiday memoirs of the Christmas season in Richmond.

Sparkle Plenty 5 Presents: Joanna Gollberg

Joanna Gollberg is one of the artists in our annual Sparkle Plenty show. Here are some of the jewelry pieces from "Prong Series," a collection of work created using colorful and precious stones set in gold. The titles for the work are inspired by her own personal memories.

Time for a nap.

Scoop E McAlister says "Where is my mother?"

Don't worry Scoop I'm at the Craft & Design show.

We are having too much fun at the VisArts Craft and design show. So many awesome folks are exhibiting and visiting. I have made some new friends and seen my West Coast BFF all in two days. However we are taking a preemptive strike and the gallery will be closed Monday November 23rd. The ladies of Quirk need a day to catch some naps and snacks.

Here Comes Andrew.

We just got in some great new work by Andrew Coombs. A Richmond native who flew the coop, only to create some simply delicious pottery. Get while it is hot. We only have a few pieces and they are pretty amazing. The kind of work that just feels good to use.

Snoop

Recently I had the opportunity to visit the amazing studio of one of my more favorite artists, Elizabeth Perkins. As soon I got my sneaky little foot in the door I fell in love with her space. It is so inviting and cozy. Her workspace to die for, in a technical utilitarian sort of way. Also she has such a collection of colorful and meaningful objects surrounding the space, I could have stayed and played all day.
Here are some delicious images of her work, materials, and shrine.
